Overview

Windows Server failover clusters keep business-critical workloads running when a server goes down. This extension runs on one of the OneAgent-monitored nodes of each cluster and gives you a single view of the cluster and its components: nodes, resource groups, resources, cluster networks, network interfaces, and cluster disks.

For every component, you can see whether it's online and healthy, so you can spot failed nodes, offline roles, or degraded networks as soon as they occur. At the cluster level, you can see whether the cluster is in a fix quorum or prevent quorum state and whether a backup is in progress. Each cluster's configuration, such as its domain, functional level, and quarantine settings, is also recorded. With this data in Dynatrace, Davis AI can detect anomalies and help you find the root cause of availability problems.

Use cases

Know immediately when a cluster node goes down, is paused, or loses power.
Follow node drain operations during maintenance and find out when a drain fails.
Detect resource groups and resources that are offline, failed, partially online, or stuck in a pending state.
Review failover settings for resource groups, such as the failover threshold and failover period.
Watch for forced quorum states and backup operations at the cluster level.
Track the state and status of cluster networks, network interfaces, and cluster disks.

Details

Compatibility information

Windows Server hosts with the Failover Clustering feature and the FailoverClusters PowerShell module installed.
The extension runs locally through OneAgent and collects data for the whole cluster, so activate it on one of the nodes for each cluster. Remote monitoring through ActiveGate isn't supported.
When configured correctly, the extension runs as Local System, so no credentials are needed. As an alternative, you can configure a dedicated read-only monitoring account with the required cluster permissions.
