Overview

Connect Dynatrace to your Atlassian Jira Service Management (JSM) for workflows. Whenever a problem, security vulnerability, or attack is detected by Dynatrace, a workflow using this app automatically creates, updates, or closes a JSM alert. No manual handoff is required.

This app tracks the Dynatrace problem through its entire lifecycle: react to a JSM alert when a problem opens, update it as conditions change, and acknowledge and close it automatically when Dynatrace resolves the problem. A stable alias ties all three actions to the same JSM alert, keeping your on-call view clean and free from duplicate notifications.

By using the JSM app you get to:

  • Keep the JSM alert lifecycle aligned with the Dynatrace Problem lifecycle
  • Reduce duplicate alerts and manual coordination for on-call teams
  • Give responders root-cause and impact context in every alert
  • Configure alert mapping and routing directly in Dynatrace Workflows

Before you start, make sure that Jira Service Management is installed, outbound connections are configured, and the connection to Jira Service Management is authorized.

Details

Full alert lifecycle automation:

  • Automatically create a JSM alert when Dynatrace detects a problem, with priority mapped from Dynatrace severity (P1–P5).
  • Close the JSM alert automatically when Dynatrace resolves the problem. No manual follow-up needed.
  • Use a stable alias across create, update, and close actions to prevent duplicate alerts and keep your on-call view clean.

Ensuring that the right responders are notified:

  • Specify JSM responders (users, teams, escalation policies, or schedules) directly in the workflow step.
  • Store credentials once as a managed connection, so API tokens never appear in workflow definitions.

Dynatrace rich context directly into JSM:

  • Forward affected entity names, tags, impact level, root cause, and problem links as structured properties on the JSM alert.
  • Include dynamic notes with direct links to the Dynatrace problem and workflow execution for fast triage.
  • Use Jinja expressions to map any Dynatrace event data into JSM alert fields without writing custom scripts.
