Overview

Simplify monitoring of your PowerMax infrastructure. Focus on essential insights into your PowerMax arrays.

This extension is intended for users, who:

  • Run their workloads on Dell PowerMax, for v3 and v4 hardware versions.
  • Want to extend Dynatrace insights into the storage infrastructure on which workloads depend.

This extension enables you to:

  • Monitor your PowerMax arrays using a PowerMax-specific entity model and comprehensive unified analysis views.
  • Receive alerts on performance and health issues detected in your PowerMax infrastructure.
  • Take proactive actions based on anomalies detected in PowerMax infrastructure before they affect your applications.

Use cases

  • Operational monitoring of your PowerMax array using Unisphere API in Dynatrace, integrated with related insights into the infrastructure and apps that utilize your PowerMax array.
  • Monitor resource utilization and receive alerts for detected anomalies.

Compatibility information

  • A Dell PowerMax array connected to the Unisphere API, reachable from an ActiveGate set up in your Dynatrace environment.
  • Unisphere API connection details: Unisphere IP, username, password, array id, and key file for authentication with the Unisphere API.
  • The Unisphere versions required are
    • Extension release 2.0.8 and older: from 10.1.0.0, up to 10.1.0.2
    • Extension release 2.0.9 and newer: 10.2 or newer.
  • Two dashboards are available on the Dynatrace portal, one for each supported hardware version. Please select the one compatible with the monitored array.

⚠️IMPORTANT CHANGE: This extension release requires Dynatrace cluster version 1.313 or later.

New features:

  • The dt.security_context attribute is now propagated to all entities created by the extension. When enabling entity access control based on dt.security_context ensure you set the Grail security context destination property to dt.security_context
  • Enabled the extension to present the Dynatrace Platform (a.k.a. Gen3) entity details screens in the future platform apps that will expect these screens

Full version history

New features:

  • PowerMax SDK update to version 10.2, which requires Unisphere 10.2 ⚠️
  • (carry-forward from release 2.0.8) Optionally change metric collection frequency, from default 1-minute to e.g. 5-minutes. This may help in large environments, where Unisphere instance polled by the extension gets overloaded and timeouts while responding to metric API calls.

Note: ⚠️IMPORTANT CHANGE: This extension release requires Unisphere 10.2. If you didn't upgrade your Unisphere yet, temporarily use previous release 2.0.8 instead. Consider upgrading Unisphere to 10.2, as it improves API performance and thus this extension performance as well.

Breaking change notice:

  • Dell no longer supports ThinPool metrics, so the corresponding feature set had to be removed.
  • As a consequence, if you had ThinPool feature set enabled, this version will require re-entering the monitoring configuration settings.
  • You may be able to upgrade your monitoring configuration if you disable ThinPool feature set before the upgrade.

New features

  • Support for EM Director and RDFA performance categories
  • Support v3 and v4 hardware versions, added separate dashboards and mapped metrics to the supported hardware versions

Patch level changes

  • Fixed srp metrics availability on the dashboards
