System visibility to support global systems reliability

Fujitsu is Japan’s leading comprehensive IT vendor. A global company operating worldwide, it develops and provides a wide range of services and solutions based on technologies such as AI and computing. It is committed to addressing social challenges, driving sustainability, and building a more responsible future through digital technology.

To strengthen its global competitiveness, Fujitsu launched “Fujitsu Transformation (Fuji-Tra),” a company-wide digital transformation initiative aimed at reshaping business structure, organizational culture, and work styles. The program enables more data-driven decision making and redesigns business processes through global collaboration. As part of this effort, the OneFujitsu Program will see the standardization of over 4,000 internal systems across cloud and on-premises environments, promoting unified integration of management, operations, and IT.

Real-time insights for faster resolutions

Fujitsu selected Dynatrace to support its transformation by providing end-to-end visibility across its environment and unifying how it collects and analyzes operational data at scale. Automatic discovery of applications, infrastructure and dependencies allows for immediate assessment of the scope of impact in the event of a failure, significantly reducing the time required for root cause analysis.

"Dynatrace has enabled us to visualize the entire system and quickly identify the root cause of problems,” says Shoko Wakamatsu, Manager, Platform Transformation Division, Corporate Digital Unit, Fujitsu. “Previously, when a failure occurred, the operations team and infrastructure team had to individually collect information, process it, and analyze it to pinpoint the cause. However, with the introduction of Dynatrace, initial response has become faster, and operations personnel can now focus on higher value-added tasks.”

Life with Dynatrace

  • Faster resolution times: Dynatrace has simplified the process of investigating issues and determining their root causes, which previously required significant manual effort and time. Incidents that previously took more than a day to resolve can now be addressed within one to two hours, meaning teams can resolve issues before they impact users.
  • Improved team efficiency: By automating data collection and analysis, Dynatrace decreases the need for manual troubleshooting across complex environments. Fujitsu estimates it can save approximately 9,960 hours annually troubleshooting across 1,000 virtual machines, freeing teams from lengthy investigations and allowing them to focus on higher-value work.
  • End-to-end visibility: Dynatrace has enabled Fujitsu to visualize operational status, process load, and user experience (Apdex scores) in real time. This allows teams to view the same information simultaneously and discuss issues as they arise, contributing to business continuity.
  • Foundation for autonomous operations: In enabling advanced analytics, Dynatrace supports Fujitsu’s gradual move toward more autonomous IT operations. Future plans include expanding its use across systems domestically and internationally to improve operational efficiency on a global scale.

"Dynatrace supports multi-cloud environments and allows for centralized identification of bottlenecks between systems, making it effective even in increasingly diverse IT environments,” added Wakamatsu. “We see great value in its ability to proactively detect system-wide problems and improve operational quality."
