Enable Kubernetes/OpenShift API monitoring

Some Kubernetes pages require that your Kubernetes clusters be connected to Dynatrace. This connection creates relationships among applications, services, processes, hosts, and Kubernetes objects such as pods and namespaces.

Dynatrace Operator manages the lifecycle of several Dynatrace components, including Kubernetes API Monitor. The DynaKube custom resource can deploy different ActiveGate pods to your Kubernetes cluster. You need to deploy a different ActiveGate for each module. See ActiveGate purposes for details.

To connect your clusters and enable monitoring, see Connect your Kubernetes/OpenShift clusters to Dynatrace.

  • If you can't use Dynatrace Operator, you can deploy ActiveGate directly as a StatefulSet.
  • If you want to monitor several Kubernetes clusters with one ActiveGate and don't need to separate networks for administrative or operational traffic, you can install an ActiveGate on a virtual machine using a conventional installer.
