The Voice Navigator browser extension pairs up with Davis Assistant to navigate Dynatrace automatically as you converse with Davis Assistant over your Alexa– or Google Assistant–compatible devices. The extension enables automatic navigation to any Dynatrace pages that are referenced in your voice interactions.
The extension is implemented using standard WebExtension APIs and supports most browsers. You can install the Davis Assistant browser extension on Google Chrome, Firefox, Opera, and Edge Insider. The browser extension authenticates itself to Davis Assistant using a token.
Support for Edge Insider is currently provided through the Chrome extension. You can find more information on how to enable the Chrome Web Store in Edge Insider.
Automated extension configuration
Setting up the Voice Navigator is very simple. The extension communicates directly with the Davis Assistant Voice Navigator page (see the steps below), which provides verification of the installation as well as synchronization of the token between the page and the extension. This provides secure, authenticated updates to your extension whenever you rotate the token.
When installing the browser extension for the first time, this automatic process is streamlined to update the token and enable the extension. If you disable the extension later, that preference is maintained.
Ensure that you have the latest version of your desktop browser. Older versions are not tested and may not work. The supported browsers are Google Chrome, Firefox, Edge Insider, and Opera.
Sign in to Davis Assistant Web at https://assistant.dynatrace.com.
Open the User menu at the top-right of the window and select Voice navigation.
Select your browser (Get the extension for Firefox below). It should automatically be detected and listed first. You are taken to the extension page where you can install it.
After installation, your page should automatically be updated if the extension is detected—the extension is automatically enabled after initial installation. If the extension is not detected immediately, you might need to refresh the page.
Note that from the Voice Navigator page, the authentication token is always automatically synchronized with the extension.
Interact with Davis Assistant on your linked Alexa– or Google Assistant–enabled device and say
open my dashboard. A new tab with the most recently accessed Dynatrace dashboard should open in your browser. You can also click the link on the page to test that the extension works correctly.
You can directly ask Davis Assistant to display your dashboard and Smartscape. The dashboard shown is the one most recently accessed by your account. In your currently selected tab, the extension detects if you are on Dynatrace and navigates to the relevant pages as you converse with Davis Assistant.
Set up Voice Navigator on a monitor for your team with an Alexa– or Google Assistant–enabled device to bring your team up to speed on the latest issues in your Dynatrace environment. Using voice interactions with Voice Navigator, you can navigate Dynatrace from problem feeds to service response times on your monitor. Enable notifications so your device is notified of problems as they are opened. Checking the latest notifications from Davis Assistant automatically pulls up problem details on your team dashboard.
Manage the Voice Navigator extension
Select the Dynatrace Davis Assistant Voice Navigator extension logo at the top right of your browser toolbar to open extension controls.
Enable the extension
Once installed, you can switch the extension off or on using the Enabled toggle.
The extension is automatically enabled upon initial installation from the Voice Navigator page. If you disable the extension later, that preference is maintained, say, when you update the token.
Set the token manually
To set the token manually, open the extension controls, paste the token string into the Set token field, and Save.
Update the token automatically
Select Get token in extension controls. This automatically opens up and retrieves the token from the Davis Assistant Voice Navigator page, saves the token, and then closes extension controls.
Note that from the Davis Assistant Voice Navigator page, the authentication token is always automatically synchronized with the extension. You can visit this page at any time to update your extension with your token.
Reset the extension
You can Reset all extension settings. This updates all settings to their default state after a fresh installation—the token is cleared and the extension disabled.
This means that when you next visit the Davis Assistant Voice Navigator page, the extension is automatically enabled and the token is automatically synchronized with it, as for all first-time installations.
Alternatively, you can select Get token in extension controls to synchronize the token and re-enable the extension.
Rotate the token
Navigate to the Davis Assistant Voice Navigator page (select Voice navigation from the User menu). Select Rotate token in the middle of the page. Rotating the token invalidates all prior sessions. From the Voice Navigator page, the rotated token is automatically synchronized with the browser extension. However, if you've installed the browser extension on another browser, you'll need to auto-update the token there.
The extension logo color indicates the connection status of the Voice Navigator.
