Installing Private Last Mile

You can install the private peer on a physical machine or in a VM environment. For information about supported environments, see Private Last Mile system requirements.

Before you begin

If you plan to install Private Last Mile on a machine that is already running Last Mile, uninstall Last Mile and delete any folders that were created for that installation before downloading Private Last Mile.

Before beginning the installation, make sure you have at least 100 MB of disk space available for the installation program.

During installation, Private Last Mile writes the peer's application information into the Windows registry.

Important
  • To have access to the downloads page for the private peer, you must log in to the Dynatrace Portal with an Account Admin, Account Primary, Test Admin, or Scripter profile.
  • The Private Peer service (gomezpeer) must run under a Windows administrator account.

Installation procedure

Download the installation program.

Log in to the Dynatrace Portal.

At the top of the window, click > More assets.

Private Last Mile - Private peer
The Opening PrivatePeer.exe dialog box appears.

Click Save File.
The file is downloaded to your downloads directory, depending on your browser options.

Go to the directory where PrivatePeer.exe was downloaded, and double-click the file to begin installation.

The Welcome screen of the installation wizard appears.

Click Next to display the License Agreement screen.

Select I accept the terms of the License Agreement.

Click Next to display the Choose Install Location screen.

Specify a destination folder, or accept the default.
The default installation folder is C:\Program Files (x86)\Dynatrace\PrivateLastMile.
If you do not want to install Private Last Mile in the default directory, click Browse to navigate to the location where you want to install it.

Click Next to display the Configuration screen.

In the Name for the PC field, specify the machine name.
This name will be used to register Private Last Mile on this computer. The current machine name is used by default. If you specify a different name, follow the guidelines provided on the screen.

In the Log On As fields, provide the Account Name and Account Password for a Windows account with administrator permissions.
The account name is used to log on to the gomezpeer service and to register Private Last Mile on the machine.
The gomezpeer service must run under a Windows administrator account. It is recommended that you create a local user account that is only used by the gomezpeer service.
For a domain account, use the syntax <DomainName\UserName>. The default value for Account Name is the username with which you logged in to the peer machine. For example, if you logged in to machine TLMVC9PP02 with the username devuser, the Account Name field automatically displays TLMVC9PP02\devuser.

If the password for the Windows account is changed, the password must be updated in the peer service properties.

Click Install.
After the installation is finished, the Installation Complete screen appears.

Click Next to display the Completing the Private Last Mile Setup Wizard screen.
By default, the options to open the Private Last Mile window immediately and to launch the window at startup are selected.

Clear any option you do not want, then click Finish.

If you need a Private Last Mile installation that includes a virtual machine within the private peer, contact Customer Support to request the peer-with-VM installer.

What to do next
