Tile types

Dual axis line/stacked bar chart

Visualize two data series or mixed data types.

The left y-axis displays the data series as a line chart and the right y-axis displays a bar chart. To create only a line chart (with no bar chart), only assign a measure to the left y-axis.

Dual axis bar/line chart

Visualize two data series or mixed data types.

The left y-axis displays the data series as a bar chart (multiple tests are charted as side-by-side bars) and the right y-axis displays a line chart. To create only a bar chart (with no line chart), only assign a measure to the left y-axis.

Dual axis stacked bar/line chart

Visualize two data series or mixed data types.

The left y-axis displays the data series as a stacked bar chart (multiple tests are charted as stacked bars) and the right y-axis displays a line chart. To create only a bar chart (with no line chart), only assign a measure to the left y-axis.

Stacked percentage bar chart

Compare parts in a series as a percentage of each value that a part contributes to the total series.

 Pie chart

Plot a single data series where none of the values are zero or less.

Area chart

Visualize a series on top of each other as independent values, which is useful for visualizing the relative difference between multiple data series.

Stacked area chart

Visualize the percentage of each part of a data series.

Meter chart

Visualize and analyze comparisons between measures.

Gauge chart

Chart a single configured measure result represented in a combined doughnut chart and pie chart.

Scatter chart

View data points for test runs so you can quickly isolate outliers and identify patterns of performance results.

Measure chart

Display the current value and a trending chart for one selected measure.

Synthetic tests

Display average availability, average response time, severity status, and number of failures for selected tests.

There is no limit to the number of tests you can add to the tile, but we recommend adding no more than 100 tests.

The Trend details page of a Synthetic tests tile is similar to the Operational summary page. You can filter the test list by test name, severity status, product (test type) or browser type. For a selected test, you can display an in-line performance trend chart and drill down to the Performance dashboard, Error analysis page, or the Trend details page of the test.

Status overview

Display the performance status of all the tests in a selected folder.

On the dashboard, the tile is a circle chart that illustrates how many tests in the folder are in a Good, Warning, Severe, and Inactive state, as determined by the thresholds configured for the tests. The Trend details page displays the Operational summary for the folder, filtered by default to list the tests in Severe status.

Image

Display an image of any format (JPG, PNG, GIF, etc.), defined by the URL for the image.

You can configure the image as a link to a URL, so that clicking the image opens a new tab displaying the target web page.

If the image size is greater than the tile size, the image is scaled down to fit the tile.

Tile configuration details

Synthetic tile

The Synthetic tile displays performance data for the tests you select. It resembles the Operational summary page, except that you select individual tests for the tile instead of displaying all tests or tests in a selected folder. The data configuration can't be changed. As in the Operational summary page, you can drill down to analyze the data.

Click Add test to select the tests. You can add any number of tests to the tile.

To filter the test list by test type and select whether to include benchmark tests in the test list, click the expand icon for Optional filter and clear the check box for each test type you want to exclude.

To find a specific test, enter a string in the Filter tests below the Optional filter. The list will be filtered to display the tests that contain that string anywhere in the name.

Status overview tile

  1. Select the Status overview icon from the bottom row of tile icons.

  2. Click Select Folder to display the folder list.

  3. Select the folder. If necessary, enter any part of the name in the Filter folders field to search for the folder.
After you select the folder, the preview displays the status chart for those tests.

  4. Click Done.

  5. Optional: To apply a tile-specific time range, click Advanced Settings. For details, see Configuring a time range, below.

  6. Click Done to add the new tile to the dashboard.

Image tile

  1. In the Image field, enter the URL for the image. The image must be hosted on the Internet.
  2. Optional: To use the image as a link to a web page, enter the URL of the web page in the Link URL field.
  3. Click Done.

Chart tiles

Select a chart tile type: any tile except Synthetic, Status overview, and Image.

Select the test.

Click Add test to display the Select tests list.

The tests are listed in alphanumeric order.

Click a test to select it.

To select multiple tests, click each test. To unselect a test, click the test again.

The Preview pane shows how many tests are selected.

Select the measure.

Click Next to display the Select measures list.

Click a measure to select it.

Configure the measure.

Click Next to display the Edit measure screen.

Select the Aggregation.

The aggregation is the calculation performed on the data, for example average, standard deviation, sum, or percentile. The default is Average.

For pie, meter, gauge, and measure charts, you can select to Focus on the most actual value.

Optionally, provide a Display name for the measure, to use a shorter or more descriptive label for the measure in the chart.

Select the Splitting.

The splitting charts the data by the selected factor, for example by node, contributor group, region, host, or ISP.

As you configure the measure, the Preview is updated to show the effect of your selections.

Click Done.

The Preview pane shows the completed chart.

The configuration pane displays the number of tests and the number of measures defined for the chart.

Optional: Select the colors for the chart series.

If you have several tiles that chart the same tests, you can ensure that the tests are identified by the same color in all the tiles. Or, you may want more contrast between colors than the default colors provide.

Click the measure link to display the measure selected for the chart.

Click the downward-facing arrow next to the measure name to display the colors assigned to the tests.

Click a color square to display the color selection grid, then click the color you want to use.

Optional: Configure a time range for the tile.

You can define a default time range and/or resolution for this chart to override the dashboard's time range. For details, see Configuring a time range, below.

After you complete the initial configuration, you can add more tests and measures to the chart if needed. By default, the configuration pane lists the tests. Click the measure link to view the list of measures.

Configuring a time range

You can define a tile-specific time range for any chart tile and for the Status overview tile.

A tile that has a custom time range defined has a clock icon in the top right corner. When the tile is expanded, the time frame is listed at the top of the Trend details view.

If you change the time range for a dashboard, any tile configured with its own time range does not change.

You can define the time range when you configure a new tile or when you edit a tile:

  • Configuring a new tile – After you select the test and measure and configure the measure, click Advanced settings at the top right of the Tile configurator.
  • Editing a tile – When the dashboard is in edit mode, click the tile to open it into the Tile configurator, then click Advanced settings.

The default setting is Use dashboard timeframe. To define a time range specific to the tile, select Tile specific timeframe to display the time range menu.

You can define a Quick or Custom time range.

Quick time range

By default, the time range menu displays the Quick time ranges. Click a time frame to display data for the selected length of time before the current time.

Custom time range

Select Custom to set exact date and time for the start and end of the time range. Click the Custom start and Custom end fields in turn to select the date, then select the hour. To save the new time range, click outside the menu.

The custom time range displays data based on your account time zone. If your local time is a different time zone, take the time zone offset into account when viewing data for a custom time range. For example, if the account time zone is Pacific Time but your local time is Eastern Time (three hours ahead of the account time), when you select 14:00 and 16:00 as the Custom start and Custom end, the chart displays data for 14:00 through 16:00 Pacific Time — 17:00 through 19:00 local time.

Tile-specific configuration

These chart types have additional configuration details.

Dual axis charts

Three dual axis chart tiles are available:

  • Dual axis line/stacked bar chart
  • Dual axis bar/line chart
  • Dual axis stacked bar/line chart

Each of these tiles can display either one or two charts, like the default configuration of the interactive chart. By default, the Left y-axis is selected for configuration. After you complete this configuration, click the measure link, click Right y-axis, and then click Add measure to configure a measure for that axis.

Pie and meter charts

If needed, enter a value in the Displayed items limit. The chart will display the top (n-1) values, and group the remaining data in "Other". For example, enter 6 if you've added 10 tests to the chart but you only want to display data for the top 5.

Measure chart

  • Value label – Enter a caption to display under the value in the chart.
  • Show chart – Click the switch  to off to hide the chart and show only the numeric value.
