Analysis tab

The Analysis tab appears when you select a test.

This tab provides an overview of Availability and Response Time for the test. It lists:

  • Errors – The icons indicate whether errors of that category occurred.
  • Nodes – This section appears for Backbone tests only.
  • Contributor groups, if any.
  • Third-party providers, if any.

In each section, excluding Nodes, metrics are compared to an analysis failure rate. By default, the rate is 25%. The value can be changed in the Account Settings page. An icon indicates whether each item in the section passed or failed .

Availability

Available is defined as:

(Successful test runs/Total test runs) * 100

A successful test run in one in which each page in the test has an HTTP response status code of 200.

Availability shows:

  • The average availability for the selected time frame.
  • If no tests ran during the time frame, availability is reported as N/A.
  • An arrow which indicates whether the current average availability is greater or smaller than the previous time period, for example, the last 12 hours versus the previous 12 hours. A bar indicates no change.

Because a higher availability rate is preferred, an increase in availability is shown by a green upward arrow; a decrease in availability is shown by a red downward arrow.

Errors

The Errors section lists each error category and indicates whether this category passed or failed:

  • Passed – Number of errors per category is less than or equal to:
Analysis Failure Threshold * Total Number of Errors
  • Failed – Number of errors per category is greater than:
Analysis Failure Threshold * Total Number of Errors

If an error type name is a hyperlink, you can click the name to view the Errors tab for this test.

Nodes

The Nodes section appears for Backbone tests only.

This section lists the location of all nodes for this test and indicates whether the node:

  • Passed – The DNS Lookup Time, Connection Time and SSL Time did not fail.
  • Failed – The DNS Lookup Time, Connection Time, or SSL Time failed.
  • N/A – No valid test results could be analyzed.

Note that the node fails if:

  • DNS Lookup Time is greater than the geometric average DNS Lookup Time (90ms) and the DNS Lookup Time is greater than the last 24 hour geometric average plus 3 standard deviations.
  • Connection Time is greater than the geometric average Initial Connection Time (500ms) and the Connection Time is greater than the last 24 hour geometric average plus 3 standard deviations.
  • SSL Time is greater than the geometric average SSL Time (500ms) and the SSL Time is greater than the last 24 hour geometric average plus 3 standard deviations.

Click a node name to display the Trend details page, which charts the test executions from the selected node.

Response time

Response Time shows:

  • The average response time for the selected time frame.

  • The average response time is shown as N/A when:

    • The average response time equals 0.
    • All test runs failed.
    • No tests ran during the time frame.
  • An arrow which indicates whether the current average response time is greater or smaller than the previous time period, for example, the last 12 hours versus the previous 12 hours. A bar indicates no change.
Because a lower response time rate is preferred, an increase in response time is shown by a red upward arrow; a decrease in response time is shown by a green downward arrow.

Contributor groups

Contributor groups provide aggregate data for related contributors to your web pages.

This section lists all contributor groups for the test. An icon next to each group name indicates whether the number of page-level errors exceeded the analysis failure threshold.

  • Passed – For third party Hosts in the contributor group, the number of failed objects is less than or equal to:
Analysis Failure Threshold * Total Number of Objects
  • Failed – For third party Hosts in the contributor group, the number of failed objects is greater than:
Analysis Failure Threshold * Total Number of Objects

Click a contributor group name to go to the Trend details page. The chart is filtered to show data for each host in the contributor group.

Hosts

The Hosts section lists all hosts for this test. The icon next to each host indicates whether the number of page-level errors exceeded the Analysis Failure Threshold.

  • Passed – For a specific host, the number of failed objects is less than or equal to:
Analysis Failure Threshold * Total Number of Objects
  • Failed – For a specific host, number of failed objects is greater than:
Analysis Failure Threshold * Total Number of Objects

Click a host name to go to the Trend details page. The chart is filtered to show data for the selected host.
