Synthetic Classic has reached end of support and is no longer available. Existing Synthetic Classic customers have been upgraded to the all-in-one Dynatrace software intelligence platform.

Test overview

To go to the Test overview page, click a test name or Steps value in the Operational summary page.

When Synthetic Classic is integrated with Dynatrace SaaS/Managed, you can drill down from synthetic tests in SaaS/Managed dashboards to the Test overview page in the Synthetic Classic Portal.

The Test overview page gives you comprehensive information at a glance for a selected test:

  • Performance and availability data for the test overall and for the test steps, measurement locations, and downloaded resources (objects).

  • Summary data for active alerts.

  • Identification of performance anomalies.

From this page, you can drill down through the Analysis workflow to investigate and resolve problems.

The page contents depend on the test type: Performance (Backbone, Private Last Mile) or Availability.

Test data

Click a tile at the top of the left pane to view data in that category. Data is displayed for the time frame selected at the top of the Portal window. You can change the time frame, selecting either a quick time frame or a custom time frame.

For each data tile, you can filter the chart and sort the table. Click an item in the legend to remove that item from the chart and filter the related list. Click a column head to sort the list in ascending or descending order.

Performance and availability

Trend chart

By default, the left pane displays a trend chart for Response Time and Availability. You can select the metrics for the trend chart: Response Time or 1st Byte Time for both Performance and Availability tests; W3C Load Time, Visually Complete, or Total Time for Performance tests only.

Click the Show performance thresholds control to draw lines across the chart that indicate the Warning and Severe threshold values for the test.

From the trend chart, you can drill down to the Raw scatter page or Trend details page for further analysis.

Error chart

If errors occurred, the circle chart below the trend chart identifies the errors. The bar chart shows the errors over time. Hover over a bar to see the error count for that date/time.

You can drill down to the Error analysis page for more details.

Click Locations to display Response Time and Availability for each measurement location the test uses.

Steps failing

This tile is only displayed for Performance tests.

If a test step failed, the Steps failing tile is red. Click the tile to display data for the failed step. Expand Expand icon the step to view the trend chart and drill down to the Trend details chart for further analysis.

This tile is only displayed for Performance tests.

Click the Resources tile to display data for all resources (objects) downloaded by the test. Summary data is provided for first-party and third-party contributors. Click the appropriate tab to chart All resources, 1st party resources, or 3rd party resources.

In the resource list below the chart, expand Expand icon a resource to view the trend chart.

Analysis data

Active alerts

Alerts triggered in the last 45 days are shown with summary information: alert type, time and duration, and number of affected locations.

Click an alert to go to the Alert details page for more information.

For Performance tests only, the Anomalies scatter chart identifies test executions that fall outside normal performance. The style of datapoint identifies provides information about the test execution.

Blue dot – Normal performance.

Yellow dot – Response time anomaly

Yellow with an X – Error

Red with an X – Failure

Hover over a datapoint to display the timestamp and response time for that test execution.

To focus on the anomalies, click Response time below the chart to hide the "normal" datapoints.

Click an anomaly datapoint to display the problem summary below the chart. The selected datapoint turns green .

Click the summary to go to the Problem analysis page to investigate the problem.

Http statistics

For Availability tests only, the Http statistics are an overview of the test's service level: The number of outages compared with the total test runs in the last 24 hours, 7 days, and 30 days; and the time elapsed since the last outage.

Note that the Http statistics may list outages while the Performance/Availability tile shows no errors, because the Http statistics may be for a longer period than the time frame selected in the time frame menu.

Drilldowns for data analysis

As described above, from the Test overview page you can drill down to these pages in the analysis workflow:
