Installing service packs

Service packs are full releases of every component. Unlike full releases, service packs consist mostly only bug fixes. When you install a service pack for any given component, you essentially upgrade that component to the service pack release. You can safely use the upgrade procedure to install any service pack released. See Upgrade.

Note
Do not change any configurations or settings while installing service packs for any of the components.

Standard deployments

For deployments not utilizing the farm configuration:

Install the console service pack.

Install the report server service pack.

Install the probe service pack.

(if necessary) Install the TCAM service pack.

(if necessary) Install service packs for any other components that you have integrated with your deployment.
If you want your deployment integration perform well after the service pack installation, make sure the integrated components are at their supported versions.

Farm deployments

Installing service packs in farm deployments involves upgrading individual nodes within the farm/cluster structure. During such an upgrade, you will inevitably create a farm setup with mixed release versions.

For deployments utilizing the farm configuration:

Install the console service pack.

Install the report server service packs.

Execute the upgrade procedure in the following sequence:

  1. (Optional) If present, upgrade all the failover nodes in the primary cluster and secondary clusters.
  2. Install the service pack for the primary node in the primary cluster.
  3. Install the service pack for each secondary node in the primary cluster.
  4. Install the service pack for the primary node in the secondary cluster.
  5. Install the service pack for each secondary node in the secondary cluster.
  6. Repeat step 3  and 4  for each secondary cluster (if present).
  7. Install the service pack for all of the data sources participating in the farm.
  8. If needed, add all of the components to the device list in the console.

Install the probe service pack for all of the probes participating in the farm.

If needed, add all of the components to the device list in the console.

(if necessary) Install the TCAM service pack.

(if necessary) Install service packs for any other components that you have integrated with your deployment.
If you want your deployment integration perform well after the service pack installation, make sure the integrated components are at their supported versions.
