Downgrading deployment

Backup requirements

To downgrade any of the NAM components to a previous release, you must restore a backed up configuration of the downgrade release as described in complete backup procedures for Report Server, Probe, Console and CSS. If you do not have a configuration backup of the target release, downgrading will include recreating individual settings per component manually.

Downgrading data collecting components will delete all data collected under current release.

This is a high-level downgrade procedure for a basic NAM installation. It provides an overview of the console, report server, and AMD downgrade sequence. Follow the links for details.

The sequence of the downgrade of each device is not critical, but it can be beneficial to follow this path:

Reinstall, recover and configure the AMD.
All monitoring configuration changes performed since the upgrade will have to be executed again after the downgrade.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Java compatibility

Keep in mind that, your current Red Hat Enterprise Linux and JAVA versions may be incompatible with the AMD monitoring software you plan to reinstall. Check Supported OS and SQL versions and Supported Java builds to find out if you can retain your current Red Hat Enterprise Linux and JAVA installations for the downgrade release.

Log in to the current AMD as user root and stop all AMD traffic monitoring services.

Remove the current monitoring software installation. Use the upgrade.bin --erase option, for example:

[root@AMD ~]#./upgrade-amd-amdos7-x86_64-ndw-17-00-02-0049-b001.bin --erase

Install the AMD software.
For information on installing AMD, see Installing the AMD Software.

Restore the AMD configuration from backup.
For information on recovering AMD, see AMD Complete Restore.

Reinstall and recover the Central Security Server.
Uninstall the Central Security Server software through the normal Windows procedure for uninstalling an application, then install the desired CSS release and restore the configuration. For more information, see the documentation for the version you are restoring.

Reinstall and recover the report server.
Uninstall the CAS software through the normal Windows procedure for uninstalling an application, then install the desired CAS release and restore the configuration.

For more information, see:

Recover the console database and reinstall the RUM Console.
Uninstall the RUM Console software through the normal Windows procedure for uninstalling an application, then install the desired RUM Console release and restore the configuration.
