This section describes how to upgrade any DC RUM 2017 release to the latest Dynatrace NAM 2018 release.
It does not include less-common procedures such as how to upgrade from a 32-bit system to a 64-bit system. For such details, please refer to the linked resources.

This is a short version of the upgrade procedure. It covers major upgrade points. It does not include steps like database upgrade, upgrade paths and deployment backups.
Upgrade all components in the prescribed sequence to perform a successful NAM upgrade:
Upgrade the console (Upgrading the NAM Console).
Upgrade the report server (Upgrading NAM Server).
Upgrade the probe (Upgrading the NAM Probe software).
(if necessary) Upgrade TCAM. (TCAM upgrade via GUI).
(if necessary) Upgrade any other components that you have integrated with your deployment.
If you want your deployment integration perform well after the upgrade, make sure the integrated components are at their supported versions.
Use this checklist to organize your upgrade or migration to the latest release. This checklist is designed for customers who have their Dynatrace products at releases that support a direct upgrade to current release.
Step 1. Learn from others
See Migrations Good To Know to review lessons learned from migrations conducted by other users so far and learn what to watch for and what to avoid.
Step 2. Create inventory
Note your current versions, components, databases, agent and product integrations.
Components and integrations applicable for NAM upgrade:
- NAM Server with their MS SQL databases and Windows operating systems.
Pay attention if your report servers operate in a farm.
- NAM Console with its MS SQL database and Windows operating system.
- NAM Probe with their Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system.
- TCAM agent installed on Citrix XenApp server.
- Dynatrace AppMon (DATM and UEM)
Choose your path
See upgrade paths, compare it against your inventory, and download all required installation packages at their latest Service Pack release.
Step 3. Get license
You may be required to match the license versions to the upgrade version. Get the NAM license by filling out the licensing form.
Step 4. Review your system
Compare your inventory against official recommendations. Depending on the result, prepare to obtain required operating system installation media and licenses, as well as prepare to upgrade your hardware if necessary.
Check the requirements and recommendations before proceeding.
Apply service packs
Apply any released service packs and updates to your current NAM environment. Go to the downloads page for your product to see whether service packs are available.
Back up your setup
Back up your current NAM environment, including databases.
Step 5. Upgrade the NAM Console
Upgrade the NAM Console from a previous version by installing the latest version of the NAM Console over the existing installation. Go to the downloads page for the installation package.
Step 6. Upgrade the database
If you are running MS SQL Server 2005, you need to migrate to a supported release. Make sure you have the installation media, the license key, and credentials to access the MS SQL Server instance for NAM Server database.
Step 7. Upgrade NAM Server
Upgrade the NAM Server report server from a previous version by installing the latest version over the existing installation. Go to the downloads page for the installation package.
Farm deployments are particularly sensitive to component upgrade order. See Upgrading Farm Deployments for more.
Step 8. Apply component licenses
Skip if you have capacity licenses
If you use capacity licenses, you can skip this step. Capacity licenses should be applied after the NAM Probe (old AMD) upgrade.
Apply component licenses to every standalone NAM Server (old CAS) within your deployment.
If your deployment uses clusters, apply the component license to the primary NAM Server (old CAS) server of each cluster within your deployment.
Step 9. Upgrade the NAM Probe
Make sure your NAM Probe is running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.x (64-bit), the Red Hat Enterprise Linux installation media and license, and access to additional packets required by NAM Probe.
Upgrade monitoring software
Upgrade the monitoring software from a previous version by installing the latest version of the software over the existing installation. Make sure you have the appropriate license and go to the downloads page for the installation package.
Step 10. Apply capacity licenses
Skip if you have component licenses
If you use component licenses, you can skip this step. Component licenses should have been applied after the NAM Server (old CAS) upgrade.
Apply capacity licenses to every NAM Probe (old AMD) within your deployment.
Step 11. Upgrade TCAM
Upgrade the TCAM agent if you use it to instrument Citrix XenApp or XenDesktop server. Go to the downloads page for the installation package.
