Monitoring ► Operation sequences

Access alternatives:

  • Click the dashboard icon at the top of the NAM Console screen
    NAM Console dashboard
    and click the Operation Sequences tile
    Operation Sequences
  • Open the NAM Console menu

    and select Monitoring ► Operation sequences.

You can manage operation sequences that are defined on an individual NAM Probe or manage each transaction that is monitored by a group of NAM Probes.

Viewing all defined operation sequences

To view all operation sequences, open the Operation sequence list screen.

For each operation sequence, the following information is shown:

  • Operation sequence name
    The name of a transaction.
  • Version
    You cannot copy legacy transactions and current transactions at the same time. Select and copy the legacy transactions first, and then copy and select the current transactions.
  • Application
    The application that includes the listed operation.
  • Type
    The protocol used to define the listed transaction.
  • Actions
    A menu of actions available for the selected operation: Edit, Copy, and Delete.

Click in the Filter box above the table to filter the table by one or more columns: select a column name, then select a value for that column.

Viewing operation sequence details

To view operation sequence details:

  1. Open Monitoring ► Operation sequences.
  2. Find the sequence you are interested in.
  3. In the Actions column for that row, select Edit.
    The edit window displays:
    • Application - address
    • Name - name
    • Description - text description
    • Timeout - seconds after which the transaction is designated as timed out
    • Slow after - milliseconds after which the transaction is designated as slow
    • Priority - 1, 2, or 3
    • URL - the URL identifying the transaction
    • Timeout
    • Repetition
  4. Right-click a row to open a menu of commands.
    • Add to open the selected sequence in the sequence editor.
    • Delete to remove the selected sequence.
    • Move up to move the selected item above the previous item in the sequence.
    • Move down to move the selected item below the next item in the sequence.
    • Copy to make a copy of the selected sequence.
  5. Click OK to save your changes.

Managing existing operation sequences

To manage all defined operation sequences, start from the Operation sequence list screen (Monitoring ► Operation sequences).

  • To create a new operation sequence, click Add operation sequence. The Operation sequence wizard opens, where you can select the NAM Probe devices that will monitor this new transaction.

  • To edit an operation sequence, select Edit for that operation sequence.

  • To copy an operation sequence to another device, select Copy for that operation sequence.

  • To delete a transaction, select Delete for that transaction.

    If the transaction you are deleting is monitored by more than one NAM Probe, a new draft configuration must be published to all of the affected NAM Probes.

Viewing operation sequences defined on an individual NAM Probe

To view the operation sequences monitored by a single NAM Probe:

  1. In the NAM Console menu, select Deployment ► Manage devices.
  2. Select Open configuration from the context menu for the NAM Probe to access the NAM Probe Configuration screen.
  3. In the Configuration menu, select Sequenced Transactions.
    The main Sequenced Transactions table lists all of the currently defined transactions and their details:
    • Sequenced Transaction Name
      The name of a transaction.
    • Application Name
      The application that includes the listed transaction.
    • Type
      The protocol used to define the listed transaction.
    • Steps
      The number of individual operations involved in the listed transaction.
    • Priority
      The priority of the transaction: 1 (high), 2, or 3 (low).
    • Timeout The maximum time for the transaction to complete.
    • Packaged Applications
      Identifies whether the listed transaction is a packaged application whose transactions are recognized by the report server automatically.
  4. Right-click an entry to open a menu of commands:
    • Open to open the selected sequence in the sequence editor.
    • Delete to remove the selected sequence.
    • Clone to make a copy of the selected sequence in the sequence editor.
    • Add to open the sequence editor for adding a new sequence.
      There are also search, add, and delete buttons at the top of the table.

Adding transactions for a range of NAM Probes

An operation sequence can be added to a number of NAM Probes at the same time.

To add a sequence to several NAM Probes:

  1. In the NAM Console menu, select Monitoring ► Operation sequences.
  2. Click Add operation sequence to open the Operation sequence wizard.
  3. Use the wizard to step through the three phases of defining the sequence of operations.
    • Select operation sequence
    • Configure operation sequence
    • Test operation sequence
  4. When you click Finish, the Save window lists all devices to which you can add this sequence.
    If you have a long list of devices, use the filter box to help you find devices.
  5. Select the check box for each device to which you want to add this sequence.
  6. Click Save.
