End of page components

Use the End of Page Components tab to specify how to know when a page ends.

For each HTTP (HTTPS) software service, URL, or URL with parameters, you can define an end-of-page component identified by its URL. Loading this component indicates that the page is complete; no further elements are taken into account when calculating metrics for the page.

Skill level: advanced user

This screen offers functionality suitable for expert users.

  • If you are new to software services, start with Software services for beginners before you come here.
  • If you want to monitor a well-known software service, start with Autodiscovered Software Services to see if your work has already been done for you.
  • If you find you still need to define your own software service, try to use the wizard or a template to walk you through the process. You can always use the manual screens to tweak a software service after you create it with the wizard. See Software Services for details.

Access

  1. In NAM Console ► Deployment ► Manage devices, select NAM Probe Configuration ► Open configuration.
  2. On the NAM Probe Configuration screen, select Software Services ► User-Defined Software Services.
  3. On the User-Defined Software Services screen, select the software service for which you want to edit dimensions, metrics, or attributes.
  4. Right-click in the Rules table and select Add (to create a rule) or Open to edit the selected rule.
  5. You can define the end-of-page components at three levels: software service, URL, and URL with parameters.
For each level, you can either provide a single regular expression that will match the URL of a component or provide a static list of components.
If you define end-of-page components at more than one level, the definitions are complementary to one another. One level does not override another.

Defining end-of-page components at the software service level

The definitions at the software service level are complementary to the definitions at other levels and do not override them.

  1. On the Edit Rule screen, switch to the End of Page Components tab.
  2. Define end-of-page components for the software service. This can be done in two ways:
    • Provide an Element regular expression to match the end-of-page component. You can define a single regular expression that will match the end-of-page component. For example, the expression
       http://www\.somewebsite\.com/.+?footer\.png

will match all the footer.png files downloaded from any of the section of the website, for example:
    • Provide Static page components definitions. You can also add a number of static definitions, listing all the necessary end-of-page components across the monitored operations. To add the end-of-page components, right-click a line in the Component column and choose Add. You must enter a fully qualified URL of the component starting from the http:// or https:// strings.
  3. Click OK to save the configuration, then publish the draft configuration on the monitoring device.

Defining end-of-page components at the URL level

The definitions at the URL level are complementary to the definitions at other levels and do not override them.

  1. On the Edit Rule screen, switch to the URL Monitoring tab.

  2. In the URL definitions table (the upper table on this tab), right-click a URL and select Open from the pop-up menu to open the Configure Monitored URL window for the selected URL, or select Add monitored URL to add a URL.

  3. In the Configure Monitored URL window, switch to the End of Page Components tab.

  4. Configure as at the software service level (described earlier).

  5. Click OK to save the configuration, then publish the draft configuration on the monitoring device.

Defining end-of-page components at the URL parameters level

The definitions at the URL parameters level are complementary to the definitions at other levels and do not override them.

  1. On the Edit Rule screen, switch to the URL Monitoring tab.

  2. Select a URL in the URL definitions table(the upper table on this tab), and then, in the URL parameter groups table (the lower table on this tab), right-click to Add a parameter group or Open an existing group.

The URL Parameter Group window is displayed.

  3. In the URL Parameter Group window, switch to the End of Page Components tab.

  4. Configure as at the software service level (described earlier).

  5. Click OK to save the configuration, then publish the draft configuration on the monitoring device.
