Offline license management

Prerequisites

  • An existing account in the Dynatrace eServices portal. If you do not have account yet, click here to register.
  • A temporary license file (dcrum_license_timestamp.lic) with a 30-day grace period for activation.
  • NAM user account with an administrator role.
License destinations

Apply capacity licenses to NAM Probes and component licenses to NAM Servers in the NAM Console.

Switching to offline license management mode

  1. Log in to your NAM Console using administrator credentials and navigate to Deployment > Licensing on the top menu.
  2. Click Manage Licenses.
  3. Select Offline license management mode.

Offline activation

  1. Select Offline license management mode in the NAM Console.
  2. Select the NAM device for license activation and click Activate in the License details panel.
  3. Select the temporary license (.lic) file and click Upload:

  4. Log in to your eServices account and navigate to your licenses.
  5. Select the license with the same ID and select Activate.
  6. Copy and paste the license activation key from NAM Console to activate your license in eServices.
  7. Download the newly activated license file and upload it into the same license activation dialog:

  8. Click Finish to complete the license activation process.
Active licenses
  • The activated capacity license file is valid only for the NAM Probe for which it was activated.
  • The activated component license file (uploaded to particular NAM Server) contains licensing for any additional components and monitoring technologies specific to that NAM Server.

Offline deactivation

  1. Select Offline license management mode in the NAM Console.
  2. Click the component (NAM Server or NAM Probe) that you want to deactivate and select Deactivate.
  3. Confirm that you want to deactivate the license on the selected component.
  4. Log in to your eServices account and navigate to your licenses.
  5. Select the license with the same ID and click Deactivate action.
  6. Use the Activation key and Deactivation keys (you need both) to deactivate the license in eServices.
  7. Click Finish to close the popup.
Warning

If you fail to deactivate the license on the eServices web site, that license will not be available for reactivation and will not appear on the Available licenses list.

Offline license upgrade

  1. Select Offline license management mode in the NAM Console.
  2. Select the NAM device that shows License must be upgraded within N days. Note the license key (201907231010 in the example below).
  3. Click Upgrade and leave the popup window open:

  4. Log in to your eServices account and navigate to your licenses.
  5. Select the license with the same ID and click Upgrade.
  6. Select a version in Choose target version, select Direct, and click Next.

  7. Copy and paste the license Activation and Deactivation keys from the NAM Console license upgrade dialog and press Deactivate and Upgrade> button to complete the license upgrade process:

  8. Click to Download link to obtain the new (open) license and then press Finish and Close.

The previous license is now terminated and the new one needs to be activated for the same device:

  1. Return to the NAM Console window (step 3), load the new (open) license (dcrum_license_XXXXXXX.lic), and press Upload to push the license to the device.
  2. Use new activation key to activate this new license in eServices.
  3. Download the activated license from eServices and upload it to the device to complete the process.
  4. Click Finish to close the license upgrade dialog in NAM Console.
