Time to upgrade! NAM is scheduled for end of support. It's time to move to Dynatrace our all-in-one software intelligence platform.

NAM Probe log files

The NAM Probe log files provide valuable information of the installation, upgrade and current operations of the monitoring software. The log files can be grouped into three areas:

Installation log files

Installation log files are located in the /root/ directory:

  • /root/install.amd.log
Lists all installed packages (version numbers included) and any unsuccessful package installations and other package installation-related issues. Verification of this file is important immediately after the system installation.
Errors logged here may indicate that the NAM Probe software will not work properly due to failed dependencies.
Errors recorded in /root/install.amd.log may be caused by faulty installation medium; if this occurs, either reinstall the failed packages manually or install the entire system again using another medium.
  • /root/postinstall.log
Lists diagnostic information for the post-installation scripts that are run at the end of the kickstart installation.
  • /root/install.deps.log
Lists the packages and dependencies installed along with the monitoring software.
  • /root/anaconda-ks.cfg
Lists all parameters and settings used during the kickstart installation.

Upgrade log files

You can view the record of upgrade processes in dedicated log files located in the /var/log/adlex/ directory:

  • /var/log/adlex/upgrade.bin.log
When the upgrade.bin script is executed, all output is recorded here, including all messages that appear on the terminal when the upgrade script is running.

Because the upgrade utilizes the installation process, you can review the installation log files as well. Make sure other elements, such as dependencies, installed properly.

Start up log files

Startup log files contain messages about the system, kernel, services and applications running on it. You can examine the starup log files for your operating system and for your monitoring software.

Most of the log files for your operating system are located in the /var/log/ directory:

  • /var/log/boot.log
Lists all the steps and their execution result occurring during the system boot.
  • /var/log/rhel.log
Contains information about the current product status, installed packages and packages marked for an update.

For detailed information on the operating system log files, check out the official documentation for that operating system.

The log files generated during a start of the monitoring software are located in the /var/log/adlex/ directory:

  • /var/log/adlex/rtmgate.log
While this log file records the continuous messages from the monitoring software, it begins with startup and configuration loading informaton.

  • /var/log/adlex/rtminst.log
Contains messages generated by the RTM configuration tool (rtminst).
