NAM probe hardware recommendations

NAM Probe is capable of achieving processing throughput of up to 0.5, 5, and 20 Gbps of the transactional TCP analysis, on the hardware meeting or exceeding following specifications. These capacity thresholds are reflecting the NAM licensing options available for NAM Probe.

Can the NAM Probe be installed on lower-spec hardware?

Yes. However, real analysis throughout of such lower-spec hardware has to be determined empirically in your environment, for your specific application analysis configuration.

Sample machines

We do not recommend particular machines. However, to help you make a purchase decision, we picked sample machines from the three mainstream vendors and listed the specification based on the actual offerings of each vendor. These specs satisfy the Dynatrace hardware recommendations for M and L capacity thresholds.

As for the S capacity threshold, any machine with the specifications meeting the recommendations is sufficient, including a virtual one.

Cisco UCS C240 M3

Some users report that when installing NAM Probe software on Cisco UCS C240 M3 with a 10G NIC, the installation hangs and the software becomes inoperable. If this happens, move the card to another PCIe slot and it should help resolve the problem.
