Connecting AppMon and NAM

To connect AppMon with NAM, you need to perform these two actions:

Before you begin

NAM and Dynatrace AppMon integration requires a typical Web Application Monitoring setup with the following NAM components installed and running:

  • NAM Probe
  • NAM Console
  • NAM Server
  • Optional : ADS

To add the Dynatrace AppMon Server and configure its connection to the NAM Server:

Adding the Dynatrace AppMon server

  1. Start and log on to the NAM Console.

  2. Select Deployment ► Manage devices from the top menu.

  3. On the Devices tab, click the Add device button.
The Add Device pop-up window appears.

  4. From the Device type list, select Dynatrace AppMon Server.

  5. In the Description box, type a description of the device.

    Tip

You should include the parent device name in the description of each device you add and to add these names consistently. This enables you to easily find your device in the list.

  6. In the Device IP address box, type the device IP address.

  7. In the Port box, type the port number for communication with this device.

    • The standard port number used by Dynatrace AppMon Server when communicating over HTTP is 8020.
    • For a device communicating with the report server over HTTPS (secure HTTP), set the port number to 8021.
  8. Select the Use secure connection check box if communication with this device should occur via a secure HTTP protocol.

  9. Type the user name and password of the account that will be used for managing this device.

The credentials you enter here will be used by the NAM Console to communicate with the device and will also be passed to report servers so that they can collect monitoring data for processing. Note that the values used here for authentication are not equal to the values you use for logging in to the device via SSH or local console.

  10. Click Next to test your connection parameters.

If your configuration fails the test, you can go back and adjust your settings. Note that if the device fails to respond correctly, it may take several seconds before the test times out.

  11. Click Finish.
