Application performance

NAM Server ► Reports ► Synthetic ► Enterprise Synthetic, then drill down on an application in the Applications column.

Example: Drilling down on the Oracle-EBS application.

The Application performance report has Transactions and Sites tabs.

Both tabs are headed with Summary and HTTP errors tiles to show you performance status at a glance. Click any tile to see a statistical breakdown of the metric.

Application performance - Transactions tab

The Transactions tab offers a transaction-centric analysis of performance:

  • Hourly transaction summary (last 12h) is an hourly overview of the Transaction request breakdown into fast, slow, and unavailable for all transactions in the reported period. Use the links in the Transaction column to access the Enterprise Synthetic - Transaction List report to analyze all the executions of a particular transaction.

  • Top slowest 5 transactions charts the shows transactions over time.

  • Transactions offers insight into the performance and availability of all applications for each transaction, supplemented by the average transaction time and a breakdown into total, slow, and failed transactions, as well as transaction time breakdown into client time, client response time, server time, network time, and application processing time for each transaction.

Drill down from the Transaction column and the Transaction requests column to access the Transaction List, Slow Transactions, and Unavailable Transactions reports, which display details of all the executions of a particular transaction in the reported period.

If the transaction monitoring data contains the Dynatrace Application Monitoring PurePath identifier, you can drill down to the Dynatrace Application Monitoring client from the Transaction column.

  • Sites lists details about the sites where the application is running. Use the links in the Client site column and drilldowns in the Transaction requests columns to investigate individual transactions performed from a particular site and application.

Application performance - Sites tab

The Sites tab offers a site-centric analysis of performance:

  • Hourly site summary (last 12h) displays an hourly overview of the Transaction request breakdown for fast, slow, and unavailable transactions for all transactions executed for the selected application-site pair in the reported period. Click the Client site column to open the Enterprise Synthetic - Transaction List report to analyze all the transactions executed on a particular site for selected application.
  • Transaction time for site charts the average transaction time for the application-site pair over the reported period.
  • Applications shows transaction performance, time, and a breakdown into fast, slow, and failed.
  • Transactions offers insight into the performance and availability of all the transactions executed for an application-site pair, supplemented by the average transaction time and breakdown into slow, fast, and failed transactions, as well as transaction time breakdown into client time, client response time, server time, network time, and application processing time for each transaction.

Infrastructure health

Applies to NAM 2018

NAM Server ► Reports ► Synthetic ► Infrastructure health

NAM Server ► Reports ► Synthetic ► Enterprise Synthetic, then drill down from the Application column.

Example: Drilling down on the Oracle-EBS application.

Use the Agent managers list to select only the agent managers you want to investigate.
Example:

Use the Diagnose infrastructure health table to focus the report.

Use the in context of selection to change the focus.

Click an entry in the table to add a filter for the selected item (such as a specific agent host).

Filters are listed under the report title. You can delete them there as needed.

Use the Find function at the bottom of the table to search in any column of the table.

Review the charts:

Tip

Click the chart legend entries to toggle the categories off and on.

  • Agent status helps you identify when problems occurred with agents or ESM infrastructure.
    1. Click the chart to zoom in on the time when the trouble occurred.
    2. In the Diagnose infrastructure health table, switch to the connected agents context.
    3. Click in the Percentage of Successful Agent Intervals column to see the latest error message and drill down to agent health and error reports.
  • Task status helps you identify when a task (script) was unable to execute as expected. This may be caused by problems with running monitored applications or your ESM infrastructure.
    1. Click the chart to zoom in on the time when the trouble occurred.
    2. In the Diagnose infrastructure health table, switch to the agent tasks context.
    3. Click in the Percentage of Successful Tasks column to see the latest error message and drill down to the task error report.
  • Transaction status helps you identify when a transaction was unable to execute as expected. This may be caused by problems with scripts and changes in the behavior of monitored applications.
    1. Click the chart to zoom in on the time when the trouble occurred.
    2. In the Diagnose infrastructure health table, switch to the task transactions context.
    3. Click in the Percentage of Successful Transactions column to see the latest error message and drill down to the transaction error report.
  • Task (script) duration [%] helps you identify when a task took longer than expected (>100%) to execute. If the situation persists, you may want to adjust “Estimated duration” in the ESM Console. You can drill down to a script error report.
