Use the Measure Configuration dialog box to define specific calculation attributes, thresholds, and other details for a measure.
Select the metric to be used for the measure in the left pane. The right pane of the Measure Configuration dialog box displays information for the selected metric that you can configure. This includes metrics general information and measure specific attributes you configure in the Configuration tab, and thresholds, display defaults, measure splitting configuration, and measure calculation restriction details in the Details tab.
Configuration tab - Metric settings
Measure Name/Metric, Description: Displays the measure name and the metric used for the measure. Expand the section and change the measure name and add or edit a description if needed, however if you change the measure name and are not connected to the Performance Warehouse, historical data may be lost.
(Metric) Measure Specific Attributes: Configure Measure Specific Attributes as needed. These settings change based on the measure being configured. This section is disabled if the metric has no measure-specific attributes.
Measure specific attributes
Measure specific attribute settings are based on the selected metric. Not all metrics have configurable measure-specific attributes. Configurable measure specific attributes are listed here by metric type.
Use the measure specific attributes section in the Configuration tab to define the measure based on the selected metric. Attributes to be defined vary depending on the metric. Not all metrics have measures with definable attributes.
The following sections list the metrics that have definable measure attributes.
For any attribute that includes a match operator, you can use an asterisk ( * ) as separator between multiple entries, and set the operator to matches to simulate starts with and ends with.
You can define measure-specific attributes for a new measure or while editing an existing measure from these metric categories:
Click a link above to find details on defining measure specific attributes for the measure you are configuring.
Configuration tab - Thresholds
You can optionally define measure thresholds to raise incidents when the measure value causes a violation. Setting severe and warning thresholds triggers incidents when violations occur.
Values that display in charts and are evaluated against the threshold that is valid at measurement time. The charted value may be the average or other aggregated value over the specified time frame. Meter charts and Percentile charts visualize the currently active threshold. A Traffic Light reflects the highest severity state that occurs within the specified time frame. XY-Charts show the threshold, and its alterations over time, as a painted area or dashed line.
The threshold value types you set are based on the calculation. For example, rate measure thresholds values are percentile values, so a threshold violation would trigger if the severe or warning percentage is exceeded.
Threshold value types include the following: num: Count-based measures, value measures. ns (nanoseconds), ms (milliseconds) or s (seconds): Timing and duration-based measures. % (percentage): Percentile-based, ratio-based measures. B (bytes), MB (millibytes), KB (kilobytes): Data amount-based measures.
Edit the thresholds in the thresholds as needed.
Display defaults section
Use this section to define the color used to represent the measure in charts and dashboards, and to define measure granularity.
- Color: Each measure has a predefined color it uses when displaying in dashboards and dashlets. You can change it by selecting a color in the color picker.
- Unit: Granularity units are determined by the type of measure and what is being calculated for the measure. Select a unit based on the following: Timing measures: nanosecond to hour Count and percentage measures: number or percent Memory based measures: byte to gigabyte
Measure Splitting section
You can use the defined logical applications to split calculated results for the configured measure and calculation to each application in the System Profile.
Create a measure for each application: Select this check box to split the measure results by application. Create a measure for each agent: Select this check box to split the measure results by application.
Restrict Measure Calculation section
Calculate Percentile Data: Select this check box to calculate percentile data for this measure. This uses additional computing power for analysis and storage space in the Performance Warehouse.
Applications: Use this area to restrict using the measure to specific agent applications. Click calculate for all applications to apply the measure to all applications in the System Profile, or click calculate only for selected applications to enable the applications list, then select the check boxes of the desired applications to which to apply the measure.
Agent Groups: Use this area to restrict using the measure to specific agent groups. Click calculate for all agent groups to apply the measure to all agent groups defined for the System Profile, or click calculate only for selected agent groups to enable the applications list, then select the check boxes of the desired agent groups to which to apply the measure.
