Dynatrace represents violations and performance degradations in charts as heat fields. Heat fields are useful for understanding when problems occurred and how severe they were. Until now it hasn’t been possible to know the nature of such issues or to access problem details directly from charts. Now when you see a heat field in a chart you can select it to display the problem type and its frequency.
In the process example below there is a heat field for a performance degradation that began just after 6:45 AM. To see details of the degradation, click the heat field.
Clicking the heat field reveals the nature and frequency of the performance degradation detected on this process. In this case the issue is a frequently occurring Long garbage-collection time issue.
But there’s more. When you select a heat field in a service chart you can access complete analysis of the degradation and its underlying root cause. In the service example below there is a heat field for a performance degradation that began just around 9:00 PM. To see details of the degradation, click the heat field.
Clicking the heat field reveals the nature and frequency of the performance degradation detected on this service. In this case the cause is a frequently occurring Response time degradation issue. Notice that the button underneath the chart has changed to reflect the type of detected problem–in this case, Analyze response time degradation.
Clicking the Analyze response time degradation button shows you complete response time analysis for this degradation. The underlying issue is slow web service calls to
Of course whenever you run into a regular problem you can open the problem details directly from the heat field now. Just click the Show problem details link to open the corresponding Problem detail page.
