Fraport AG Chooses dynaTrace Diagnostics
Monitoring and diagnosis of performance bottlenecks in ICCO
Frankfurt / Main – 16 June 2008 – The Frankfurt Airport is one of the world’s busiest
with 1,350 flights a day to the top 10 airports worldwide in 2007. To ensure timely
and efficient clearance of these flights, Fraport AG supports clearance of individual
flights with a proprietary software process: ICCO (Integration of Contract and Calculation
data to Operations). Fraport AG chose dynaTrace to monitor and diagnose performance
bottlenecks in ICCO. "The analysis capability of dynatrace Diagnostics allows us
to more quickly and accurately analyze problems in production," said Guenther Finger,
Fraport AG’s director of operations for information and communication services.
dynaTrace Diagnostics records and visually maps, 24x7 in production, the precise
runtime execution path – the “PurePath”
– of every discrete transaction across heterogeneous and distributed application
components down to code-level with only minimal performance overhead. The PurePath
contains not only pure performance metrics (e.g., response times, CPU usage),
but also contextual information (e.g., memory usage, method arguments, exceptions,
log events, IO usage, SQL calls, synchronization delays, etc.) in order to enable
precise root-cause analysis. PurePath Technology helps rapidly resolve performance
problems by isolating the component causing the problem (WHERE?) and identifying
the root-cause of the problem (WHY?)
With dynaTrace Diagnostics Fraport can analyze ICCO’s performance both in real time
and with offline analysis. In real-time, all diagnostic data – including complete
PurePaths – can be analyzed as the application executes the transaction. Problems
can be interactively diagnosed down to the line of code without any delay. Offline
diagnosis enables easy reconstruction in a local development environment of performance
problems that occurred in a staging or production environment without the high cost
to reproduce it. Developers can use exactly the same interactive diagnostics tools
as with real-time diagnostics.
“It is not always possible in pre-production to reproduce errors that occur in production,
because both environments are not equal 1:1. Days or even weeks often can go by
before the causes of performance problems can be found,” said Jens Steinborn, dynaTrace
Sales Manager DACH Region. “With dynaTrace Diagnostics this troublesome procedure
can be replaced with a complete reconstruction of all data because these transactions
have been saved on the diagnostics server. As a result the fruitless passing of
blame between departments finally stops.”

About dynaTrace software, Inc.
dynaTrace is the leader in lifecycle application
performance management for business-critical Java and .NET applications. dynaTrace’s
PurePath Technology® is the only solution
that captures data on all individual transactions down to code level by tracing
their “PurePath” across multiple physical and logical tiers – even 24x7 under load
in production – enabling customers to move beyond
monitoring to diagnosis and prevention. In each application
lifecycle stage – development,
QA,
staging, production – IT personnel now
can see and understand where and why performance issues exist. With dynaTrace, enterprises
gain better understanding of their applications’ dynamic behavior and how it impacts
their business, allowing them to rapidly reconstruct problems to identify the root-cause
and fix it.
