PurePath Technology®: The quickest way from a problem’s symptom to its solution

The core of dynaTrace Diagnostics is its unique PurePath diagnosis technology, which helps you find the answers you need to resolve performance problems quickly and reliably:

  • Which component is causing the problem (WHERE)?
  • What is the root-cause off the problem (WHY)?

Problem scenarios are fundamentally analyzed using the following two diagnostic procedures:

  • Outside-In: From the end-user perspective (e.g., poor response time) down to the method-level
  • Inside-Out: From the code perspective (e.g., exception) up to the affected business transaction(s)

Unique characteristics of PurePath technology:

Analysis of individual user transactions

dynaTrace Diagnostics goes well beyond just recording average or aggregated values and measures actual business transactions initiated by end users and software clients. Such precise diagnosis offers clear identification of the factors influencing the performance of specific business transactions – outside influences from other transactions are simply disregarded, which ensures accurate, precise problem diagnosis.

Deep insight using KnowledgeSensors™

dynaTrace Diagnostics measures the performance-relevant data of an execution path for every single transaction down to the method level. Besides performance metrics (e.g., response-times, CPU usage), KnowledgeSensors also capture contextual information (e.g., method arguments, exceptions, log events) in order to enable a precise root-cause analysis.

Diagnosis of heterogeneous multi-tier applications

PurePath technology allows you to decompose single transactions across multiple logical and physical servers, which may reside on different platforms such as Java and .NET.

Low overhead, small footprint on monitored servers

dynaTrace Diagnostics gathers PurePaths for all transactions during 7x24 operations through Diagnostics Agents that are located on the target system. All calculations are done on the Diagnostics Server, which enables overhead to be sustained at a very low level of only 3-5%. This makes dynaTrace Diagnostics ideally suited for usage in dynamic, high load environments such as load test and production.

Simple, point and click extensibility

Users are able to easily extend the out-of-the-box KnowledgeSensorPacks™ with their own custom sensors in order to more precisely diagnose problems in software components that do not implement standard interfaces.
